So, in this write-up we will uncover more information or dig down deep into the functionality and what it does?

So, let’s dive into it.

Superficially, BHIM is the name of an ancient Hindu epic (Mahabharata) character who was incredibly powerful and muscular. But BHIM app doesn’t signify that. Instead, BHIM stands for Bharat Interface for Money, which is named after Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Narendra Modi announced that the transactions can be done with fingerprint impressions, though the facility has not started yet.

As of now, the Android application is out there, but iPhone and Windows users have to wait for some time.

So, enough of the overview, let’s talk about some technical terms concerning BHIM app.

BHIM or Bharat Interface for Money is a UPI (Unified Payments Interface) based application and is used for digital payments online. It is managed under the hood of NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India).  It’s on a mission of “#GoCashlessIndia.”

In case if you are wondering that what is Unified Payments Interface or UPI? Here is what it stands for.

Unified Payments Interface is a digital payment system that equips the user to do transaction between two bank accounts via a smartphone.

The unique selling point of this UPI service is that it allows the user to do the transaction from bank accounts to any merchants without entering the recurring details like credit or debit card number, IFSC codes and corresponding passwords.

You can even download the UPI app of a particular bank from the app store (Subject to availability).

What? Wait, if you are confusing BHIM with just another mobile wallet, then you need to stop right there.

The case is entirely different here. With various mobile wallets like Paytm or others, you have a limitation associated with the amount you can keep in there. But, since, BHIM is directly linked to your bank account. So, there is no restriction. The transacted amount will be credited or debited straight to or from your linked bank account.
